Meen (Fish) Moilee

Indian curries are well known for being spicy, hot, and flavorful. There are a wide variety of curries available based on their origination. Kerala is one of the states in India that is known for its curries, particularly the way that its fish curries are made. Popularly known and frequently prepared fish curries in Kerala are Fish Peralan, Fish-Stew, Tamarind- Coconut Fish curry, Red Fish Curry, Fish Moilee, Meen vevichath and many more.

Keralan cuisine produces a delicious and extremely hot dish called Fish/Meen Moilee. It is supposed to have originated in India or Portugal. Meen Moilee is made using a variety of unique ingredients that are prized for their complex flavors.

Ingredients:

    Seer Fish
  • 1 1/2 No's
    Coconut
  • 1 No
    Onion
  • 2 No's
    Tomato
  • 4 Slices
    Ginger
  • 1/2 Tsp
    Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 3 to 4 No's
    Green Chilli
  • 1/4 Tsp
    Turmeric powder
  • As Required
    Curry Leaves
  • 6 Tbsp
    Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 Tsp
    Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp
    Cumin Seeds
  • To Taste
    Salt

    The Seer Fish is thoroughly cleaned and marinated with turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, crushed green chillies, salt, and lemon juice.

    Grate the coconut, transfer to a mixer jar, add ¾ glass of water, extract 1 ¼ glass of thick coconut milk, and add 1 glass of water to the remaining and then extract the thin milk.

    Heat coconut oil in a clay pot, then add Mustard, Cumin seeds, Ginger, and Green chillies.

    In this stage, add sliced Onions and then cook up to 30% and then add Curry Leaves, Turmeric Powder, Tomatoes, and thin Coconut Milk.

    When the Coconut Milk begins to boil, add the Marinated fish and cook. Once the fish is cooked up to 90%, turn the flame to low and add the extracted thick coconut milk.

    Add coriander leaves, tomatoes and coconut oil to the mixture and turn off the stove.

    The ultimate and delicious Meen Moilee is now ready to be served. The Meen Moilee goes as a great accompaniment with Rice, Appam and several other dishes.
