Shawarma is a culinary delight that originated in the Middle East and has spread across practically every section of the country due to its distinct flavor.
Shawarma is an Arabic dish that has quickly spread and is enjoyed all over the world. In recent days, it has also been the most popular choice for many. The word “Shawarma” is derived from the Turkish word “Cevirme,” which means “turning.” Shawarma is also known as Chawarma, Shaurma, Showarma, and a variety of other names.
The preparation of chicken shawarma is briefly detailed in Chef Deena’s Kitchen. Instead of grilling and shredding the meat, the chicken is grilled on a tawa, sliced into little pieces, and wrapped. The chicken is marinated in common powder masalas and cooked on a tawa. Pita bread is prepared, Chicken is grilled and cut into desired shape and it is dressed with mayonnaise and tomato ketchup. Together, they are wrapped and served.

- 1First step in this Chicken Shawarma preparation is to prepare the Pita Bread. Combine instructed amount of Yeast, Sugar and luke warm water together and leave the mixture undisturbed for half an hour; so that the yeast gets activated.
- 2In a large mixing bowl, combine Maida, Salt, and activated yeast mixture. Pour in 125 ml of water to flour and mix to form a dough.
- 3Cover the dough using a lid and allow it to rest for 2- 3 hours.
- 4Marinate thinly sliced chicken in Oil, Salt, Turmeric Powder, Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Kasuri methi, Ginger, Garlic paste, and masalas for 30 minutes.
- 5Cut the dough into segments based on the size of the sheets, shape into round balls, and roll into sheets.
- 6To remove extra flour, lay the sheets in your palm and rotate with both thumb fingers. Using a fork, make small holes here and there.
- 7Grill the marinated chicken for 2-3 minutes on a tawa with Oil, Garlic, and Butter. Transfer the grilled chicken pieces to a bowl and put aside.
- 8The next step is to cook the prepared pita bread for 30 seconds on one side, then flip it over and cook it on the other side.
- 9Cooked chicken can be finely chopped, julienned, chunked, or cut into any size you prefer.
- 10Place the cooked pita bread on a butter sheet/parchment paper, then top with grilled Chicken pieces, Mayonnaise, and Tomato sauce.
- 11After stuffing, roll the paper and fold the bottom portion.
- 12The popular and delectable Chicken Shawarma is now ready.
